Reduction in Water Consumption at La Campagnola, San Rafael, Mendoza

47% reduction in water use in three years

At La Campagnola San Rafael fruit pulps are produced for the subsequent manufacture of jams and sweets. Water is an essential input, being used not only to wash raw materials and equipment, but during the pulp concentration process.

As set forth in the corporate guidelines, several changes have been designed and implemented to prepare the premises to achieve reduction in water use by optimizing in-situ control systems and applying water reuse strategies.

Main actions include:

To reuse water previously used in concentrators for the heat exchanger in the fruit-washing sector by installing a return circuit.

STARTING YEAR: 2014 - INSTALLATION COST: ARS 250,000.

To eliminate water waste in the fruit-washing process during shutdowns o when the equipment stops through the installation of electro-valves in rotary washing machines.

STARTING YEAR: 2016 - INSTALLATION COST: ARS 111,000.

To reduce water consumption and effluent generation during equipment washing.

STARTING YEAR: 2016 - INSTALLATION COST: ARS 21,000.

To reuse water previously used in pulp sterilizers in the fruit-washing sector by installing a return circuit.

STARTING YEAR: 2017 - INSTALLATION COST: ARS 36,700.
