An Effluent Treatment Plant with Social Impact on Arroyito Complex, Córdoba.

35% of the sewage effluent generated in the city of Arroyito is treated at the effluent treatment plant of Arcor Group’s industrial complex.

Since 1994, the Arroyito complex has had the appropriate equipment to ensure the adequate treatment of liquid effluents.

As part of the environmental management system implemented at the Complex, since many years work has been focused on source reduction of liquid effluents load and flow. Accordingly, each production and service unit carefully analyzes the operations that generate effluents, assessing the potential of reducing the total flow and organic load, and defining improvement plans which are progressively executed.

The improvement made created an idle capacity transferred to the materialization of an ambitious project of high social and environmental impact: the treatment of sewage effluents generated in the city of Arroyito. An agreement was entered with the municipal authorities, whereby Arcor Group agreed to treat the sewage effluents generated in most areas of the city. The Municipality and the Arroyito Cooperative initiated procedures and works for the installation of a municipal sewage collection network. Finally, in April 2011 the sewage effluents of the first homes connected to the sewer line were treated, and by the end of 2016, the number of households reached 3,860.

The building of the new Wet Milling industrial plant at the Complex required the expansion of the effluent treatment plant, and construction works began in 2014. As of today, the effluent treatment plant has state-of-the-art equipment, with the capacity to treat effluents resulting from the industrial complex and sewage effluents generated in the city of Arroyito, complying with the discharge parameters established by the applicable legislation. A biological mud is created on the process, which is later used in our own lands to improve the soil characteristics and the crop yields.
